Homeland Security

Homeland Security

To combat the very real potential for terrorist attacks, the Department of Homeland Security was established to prevent and protect against these threats. With their hatred for American policy and culture, and their disregard for civilian lives, terrorists are a major threat. The foremost job of our government is to protect its people and the Department of Homeland Security is on the front lines of that battle. As well, Homeland Security professionals are first responders to natural disasters. Although similar in capability to the Department of Defense, Homeland Security works within America's borders and is also charged with protecting those borders from incursions by illegal aliens and others who try to enter the country illegally.

Because of that size and the importance of their mission, the Department of Homeland Security may have urgent needs for criminal justice professionals.

Careers within the Department of Homeland Security can be found at the local, state, and federal level, and for all types of positions. The Department of Homeland Security comprises twenty-two agencies that all have a specific role in protecting the nation from terrorist attacks. Some of the agencies include the Coast Guard, Secret Service, Border Patrol, Transportation Security Administration, and Nuclear Incident Response Team. With so many agencies under its domain, there is almost certainly a job field that appeals to anyone who is interested in criminal justice and in protecting the freedoms of the American people. In line with the multiple job opportunities, there are varying levels of education required. For most jobs, the higher the level of education and the more experience required, the higher that job's compensation will be.
